Dynamos skipper Emmanuel Jalai is set to end his long association with the Glamour Boys after agreeing a reported two-year deal with South African Betway Premiership outfit Durban City.
The transfer was close to completion late yesterday, with final contractual details still being finalised before the deal is officially signed. Once concluded, the move will bring to an end Jalai’s seven-year stay at Zimbabwe’s most decorated club.
At just 26, Jalai departs DeMbare as one of the defining figures of Dynamos’ recent chapter. He joined the Harare giants in 2019 from Aces Youth Soccer Academy as a relatively unknown talent but steadily rose through the ranks to become club captain.
His journey at Dynamos was marked by consistency, resilience and leadership, qualities that saw him entrusted with the armband during some of the club’s most testing periods. Last season, Jalai played a key role in steering the team away from relegation, leading a spirited fightback when the club appeared destined for the drop.
Despite struggles in the league, Jalai was instrumental in Dynamos’ continued dominance in the Chibuku Super Cup, helping the club secure a record three consecutive titles and maintain silverware during a turbulent phase.
His performances earned national recognition, with Jalai making the Castle Lager Soccer Stars calendar in both 2024 and 2025. He also broke into the Warriors squad, featuring at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco last December, where he impressed with his versatility on the right flank.
Able to operate both as a right-back and right winger, Jalai provided energy, discipline and balance for Zimbabwe, even as the team exited the tournament at the group stage.
Durban City, currently seventh on the Betway Premiership standings, have moved swiftly to secure his services as they strengthen their squad midway through the 2025/26 season. The South African side will be adding a player accustomed to pressure, expectation and leadership forged in the demanding environment of Dynamos.
For Jalai, the move represents a new challenge and a chance to test himself beyond Zimbabwe’s borders after establishing himself as one of the country’s most reliable right-sided players.
