
IN what has left the African elders shocked and ancestors turning in their graves , a 28-year-old woman from Kwekwe assault3d her father and vandalized his vehicle during a domestic dispute on 1 July 2024.The incident occurred at the family’s residence in Mbizo, following a drunken confrontation.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the woman struck her father twice on the head before smashing the rear and side windows of a Toyota Ipsum with a brick. A US$200 fine has been ordered by the Kwekwe Regional Magistrates’ Court, although the amount of damage she caused was assessed to be over US$250.
The matter was brought before the court under charges of domestic violence and malicious damage to property. She pleaded guilty to both charges and was convicted.
In addition to the fine, the court imposed a two-month prison sentence, which was wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.
According to SundayMail, the court took into account the woman’s remorse and willingness to accept responsibility.
The publication also highlighted growing concerns over domestic violence in Zimbabwe, noting that such incidents continue to strain family relationships and carry long-term emotional and financial consequences.
The case has sparked renewed calls for non-violent conflict resolution within households, with legal authorities encouraging communities to seek help before tensions escalate.
