A harrowing incident unfolded at Lake Kariba’s Chikuyu fishing camp last week when a Binga fisherman, Jethro Moyo, was attacked and killed by a crocodile. The tragic event occurred on a Wednesday evening around 7 pm. According to Trust Munkuli, a colleague of the deceased, Moyo’s colleague heard a loud scream and rushed to investigate, only to be met with a float of crocodiles.

In the aftermath, the community launched a search for Moyo using a small boat, but unfortunately, they couldn’t find anything. The next day, Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority rangers shot one of the crocodiles, which subsequently vomited human remains, including lungs, liver, part of the intestines, and a shoe belonging to Moyo.

The recovered remains were taken to Binga Mortuary, where they await repatriation to Jotsholo for burial. However, relatives of the deceased expressed concerns over the functionality of the mortuary, which has been non-operational for years.

In a heartwarming display of kindness, a well-wisher, Richard Muleya, took in Moyo’s family as they awaited the deceased’s remains. Muleya, a resident of Manyanga area, said, “I felt pity after hearing them say they would stay at a public transport area, so I decided to take them to my place until the day they remove the remains for burial.”
