Church Leader Condemns Zimbabwean MMA Fighter for Insulting President Mnangagwa

Jay Israel Senior, a prominent church leader, has publicly criticized Zimbabwean Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Themba Gorimbo for making derogatory remarks against President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Speaking out on Facebook, Israel accused Gorimbo of disrespecting the nation’s leadership and undermining the country’s image internationally.

Israel emphasized that as a public figure representing Zimbabwe abroad, especially in the United States, Gorimbo’s behavior sets a poor example for Zimbabwean youth and damages the country’s reputation. He condemned Gorimbo’s use of offensive language toward the President, underscoring the importance of respecting the office that symbolizes Zimbabwe’s unity and sovereignty.

Israel also accused Gorimbo of being influenced by foreign interests, labeling him a “sellout” acting on behalf of colonial powers. He warned that Gorimbo would be barred from entering Zimbabwe or South Africa as long as he continues his campaign of insults. Israel confirmed that evidence of Gorimbo’s conduct has been submitted to authorities, citing Zimbabwe’s law (Section 33 of the Criminal Law Act) that criminalizes public insults against the President.

In his statement, Israel urged Zimbabweans to exercise criticism with dignity and patriotism, distinguishing it from criminal insults that threaten national respect and stability.

In response, Themba Gorimbo accused Jay Israel Senior of threatening him and his family, warning that any harm to his relatives would be met with serious consequences. Gorimbo clarified that his comments were his own and questioned the integrity of pastors who support the President.
