Chido Chizondo Takes the Helm of Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League

Chido Chizondo, the dynamic chairlady of FC Platinum Queens, has been elected as the new chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League. In a decisive victory, Chizondo secured 13 votes, far surpassing her opponent, Col Nthokoziso Moyo, who garnered just three votes from Black Rhinos Queens.

This election marks a significant milestone for women’s football in Zimbabwe, which has faced numerous challenges, including a lack of sponsorship and inequity between female and male footballers. Chizondo’s extensive experience in the sport, garnered over a decade, is expected to bring about positive change. Her campaign focuses on eight key areas: professional governance, commercialisation and resource mobilisation, talent development and youth pathways, brand enhancement, welfare and empowerment, stakeholder engagement and management, monitoring, evaluation, and adaptation, and infrastructure development.

With her election, Chizondo aims to usher in a new era of proactive leadership, aligning with the mandates of ZIFA and FIFA. Her goal is to make the women’s league emulate the successes of the male Premier Soccer League. The election outcome is seen as a watershed moment for women’s football in Zimbabwe, and Chizondo’s leadership is expected to drive growth and development in the sport.
