Bulawayo City Council Launches 465

The Bulawayo City Council, in collaboration with private developers Natwecraft (Pvt) Ltd and Cabin Lock Construction, has officially commissioned 465 serviced residential stands in Luveve North and Emganwini. This milestone marks a significant step towards addressing the city’s housing backlog, estimated at over 140,000.

The project is part of a public-private partnership involving eight developers, expected to deliver up to 10,000 residential stands to the market. Natwecraft completed 328 stands in Luveve North, while Cabin Lock Construction finished 137 stands in Emganwini. Cabin Lock’s managing director, Tamsanqa Matobela, revealed that they anticipate completing two more phases by year-end, bringing the total to 473 stands.

Bulawayo Mayor, Councillor David Coltart, emphasized that housing remains a key priority for the city in 2025. “These multi-million-dollar projects demonstrate our commitment to providing quality serviced stands for home seekers,” he said. The council is focused on inclusive housing development, catering to the financial capabilities of residents with both medium- and high-density options available.

Natwecraft’s managing director, Nkululeko Moyo, highlighted the project’s benefits, saying, “This initiative not only provides homes but also creates jobs for our locals, enhancing livelihoods across the community.” The project aligns with national development standards and underscores Bulawayo’s drive to meet rising demand for housing through strategic partnerships with the private sector .

The Bulawayo City Council has outlined plans to deliver more housing stands, with a master plan that includes 5,390 residential stands. The council aims to address the city’s housing backlog through continued partnerships with private developers and strategic planning.
