Activist Godfrey Karembera’s Health Deteriorates in Prison

Prominent pro-democracy activist Godfrey Karembera, widely known as Madzibaba VeShanduko, is reportedly in critical condition at a local prison. The 47-year-old activist is said to be suffering from a severe urinary issue, having initially struggled to urinate before becoming unable to do so altogether .

Karembera’s imprisonment stems from his alleged involvement in distributing flyers promoting the One Million Men March, an anti-government protest organized by war veteran Blessed “Bombshell” Runesu Geza. He faces charges of incitement to participate in a public gathering with intent to cause public violence.

According to reports, Karembera was abducted, tortured, and later abandoned at Harare Central Police Station. His lawyer, Paida Saurombe, has raised concerns about his client’s treatment, highlighting the need for proper medical attention. Despite his deteriorating health, prison officials have reportedly denied Karembera’s request for private medical care.

Karembera’s case has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for his immediate release and proper medical treatment. As a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s pro-democracy movement, his health and well-being are of significant concern to human rights activists and supporters.
