Prophet Walter Magaya made his first public appearance in two weeks, leading his PHD Ministries’ Sunday service in Harare. Thousands of members packed the church, eager to see their leader after a month-long absence. Magaya’s fasting ended abruptly when he was arrested on November 1 on allegations of fraud and rape, which he denies.
Magaya had missed his ministry’s Night of Turnaround event while in remand custody, but was granted bail last week. Church members, including senior leaders, declined to comment on his arrest when approached by journalists.
Magaya is set to return to court tomorrow, amidst allegations that some PHD members tried to raise US$200,000 to obstruct justice .
