Zimsec is facing fresh criticism over its handling of this year’s public examinations, with allegations of serious logistical breakdowns and possible governance issues. Opposition party leader Linda Masarira is calling for an independent public inquiry into Zimsec’s operations, citing concerns over exam leaks, mismatched subjects, and intimidation of educators.
Masarira wants the government to act quickly to restore public confidence in the education system, suggesting reforms such as transparent accountability systems, staff vetting, and digital tracking mechanisms to prevent tampering and leaks .
The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) is also urging Zimsec to implement policies curbing exam leaks, with secretary-general Goodwill Taderera emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency. Meanwhile, Zimsec has denied allegations of widespread irregularities, insisting that exams are proceeding smoothly and securely .
