The Regional Court in Hwange has sentenced Samson Siazuza to four years in prison for the attempted murder of former Cabinet Minister Joel Gabuza. The attack occurred on June 5, 2025, in Siamwake Village, Binga, where Siazuza, fueled by rage and suspicion of a romantic relationship between Gabuza and a local woman, viciously assaulted the former minister.
Siazuza, 46, and an accomplice, Smart Sipu, who remains at large, confronted Gabuza, pulled him out of his vehicle, and stabbed him in the right eye with a homemade knife. They then beat him repeatedly with logs, causing severe head injuries and deep cuts. Gabuza survived the attack after receiving urgent medical care at Mpilo Hospital.
The court convicted Siazuza of attempted murder and sentenced him to six years in jail, with two years suspended. Siazuza will serve an effective four years in prison. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) warned that disputes over relationships should never result in violence and that anyone resorting to such brutality will face heavy prison terms.
The police recovered the weapons used in the attack and are still investigating to arrest Sipu, who remains at large. The NPA’s statement emphasized the importance of resolving disputes peacefully and the consequences of resorting to violence.
