Zimbabwean Match Officials Appointed for FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier

In an exciting development for Zimbabwean football, FIFA has officially appointed four distinguished match officials from Zimbabwe to oversee the crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Matchday 7 Qualifier clash between South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This high-stakes encounter is set to take place on the 5th of September, 2025, at the iconic National Stadium in Juba, South Sudan.

At the center of the action will be Brighton Chimene, who has been entrusted with the responsibility of the match referee. Known for his sharp decision-making skills and calm demeanor under pressure, Chimene’s leadership on the pitch will be pivotal in ensuring the game is conducted fairly and smoothly.

Supporting him as the first assistant referee is Luckson Mhara, whose keen eye for offside calls and fouls will be essential in maintaining the flow and integrity of the match. Alongside Mhara, Edgar Rumeck will fulfill the role of second assistant referee, contributing his expertise to monitor the sidelines and assist with critical decisions during fast-paced moments.

Additionally, Lawrence Zimondi will serve as the fourth official, a role vital for managing substitutions, overseeing administrative tasks, and acting as a liaison between the teams and the refereeing crew. His presence ensures that all procedural aspects of the game adhere strictly to FIFA regulations.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has warmly congratulated these officials on their prestigious appointments. They expressed immense pride in their representatives, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and integrity as they carry the Zimbabwean flag onto the international stage. ZIFA’s endorsement reflects the growing recognition of Zimbabwe’s refereeing talent and commitment to football excellence worldwide.

This appointment not only highlights the individual achievements of Chimene, Mhara, Rumeck, and Zimondi but also underscores Zimbabwe’s increasing influence in the global football community.
