Amapiano Beef- DJ Maphorisa and Black Coffee Go Head-to-Head

A Twitter drama unfolded last night between two of South Africa’s biggest music producers, DJ Maphorisa and Black Coffee. The controversy began when DJ Maphorisa tweeted, “All major musicians today are famous because of me and some of them are millionaires. We produce 100% local sound and people love it.” He also claimed to have created the Amapiano sound that has gained worldwide recognition.

Black Coffee, seemingly provoked by Maphorisa’s claims, responded with a fiery tweet, “My brother, you still get booked at kasi events and I get booked by dollar millionaires.” This dig at Maphorisa’s booking status was a clear indication of the competitive nature of the music industry. Black Coffee also advised Maphorisa to “focus on robbing artists” and let him focus on his own career.

This isn’t the first time these two DJs have clashed. In 2020, they had a similar Twitter spat, with Maphorisa and Black Coffee exchanging heated words. The tension between them appears to stem from their differing levels of success and recognition, both locally and internationally.

Twitter users have been quick to share their opinions on the drama, with some defending Black Coffee’s right to focus on his own career and others criticizing Maphorisa for his perceived arrogance. The beef between these two music heavyweights has sparked a lively debate about the Amapiano genre and its key players.

Interestingly, Black Coffee has been in the news recently for a cryptic tweet that suggested he was struggling with personal issues. The tweet, which read “If at this point taking my life will make you happy, go ahead take it,” was quickly deleted, but not before it sparked concern among his fans. It’s unclear how this recent controversy might be related to his beef with Maphorisa.
