Walter Mzembi’s Night in the Cells: A Former Minister’s Troubles Continue

Former Cabinet minister Walter Mzembi is set to spend his fourth night in custody as he navigates a long-standing legal issue. The inquiry into his failure to attend court in 2018 will determine why he missed the proceedings related to allegations of criminal abuse of office and theft of trust property during his time in government.

Mzembi’s legal troubles aren’t new. The allegations against him have been ongoing for years, and his recent arrest by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has brought the issue back to the forefront. After appearing in court on Saturday, Mzembi was remanded in custody, and a ruling on the default inquiry is now expected.

The court’s primary concern is understanding why Mzembi failed to attend the earlier trial. His explanation will be crucial in determining the outcome of the inquiry. With a ruling pending, Mzembi’s future hangs in the balance.

As Mzembi spends his fourth night in custody, one can’t help but wonder   how  cold  the  cells  are   and what the future holds for the former minister. Will he be able to clear his name, or will the allegations continue to haunt him?
