The Fake Doc- “Take Lacto And Fruits Three Times a Day”

Meet Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, aka Prosper Mpofu, the 29-year-old mastermind who thought he could outsmart the system by masquerading as a doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital. Little did he know, his fake medical skills would land him in a world of trouble!

Vanhuvaone’s game was simple: promise desperate patients fake medical services and fleecing them of their hard-earned cash. He convinced a nurse-aid student to part with US$1,600, claiming he could secure her a spot at Mpilo Hospital. Talk about pricey medical “advice”!

But things took a turn when he issued a fake prescription with instructions that read like a fruit salad recipe: “Lacto and fruits including apples and grapes.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what the medical community needs – more fruit prescriptions!

The court wasn’t amused, and Vanhuvaone was convicted of fraud, impersonating a medical professional, and unlawfully prescribing medication. He was sentenced to 7 years behind bars, but with a twist: serve half the sentence (42 months) if he pays back his victims by July 30. Talk about a “prescription” for redemption!

This wasn’t Vanhuvaone’s first rodeo. In 2022, he was in court again, this time for assault charges, where he claimed to be a fifth-year medical student. Guess some people just can’t resist a good alias!

Vanhuvaone’s antics may have fooled some, but in the end, justice was served. The court’s message is clear: fake doctors won’t be tolerated, and those who endanger lives will face the consequences.
