A 32-year-old police officer from Bulawayo has been formally charged with two counts of engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor after allegedly having relations with a 17-year-old schoolgirl. Mduduzi Dube, who serves in the police support unit at Ross Camp, appeared in court last Thursday before Magistrate Patience Madondo. He faces charges under Section 70 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, which prohibits sexual activity with children.
According to prosecutor Joseph Rugara, Dube took the 17-year-old student, who is in Form 4 at Njube High School, to his uncle’s residence in Sauerstown in August 2025, where the first incident reportedly occurred. The same offense allegedly happened again in October 2025 at the same location.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) stated that the girl later revealed what happened, leading to a police complaint. She underwent a medical examination, and the resulting report will be used as evidence. Although Dube is described as the girl’s boyfriend in court documents, the NPA emphasized that any sexual activity with a minor is illegal, regardless of consent. Dube’s lawyer, Takunda Chapisa, requested bail, which was subsequently granted.
