Zimbabwe’s Witchy Wars- Socialite Enchantress Faces Court Over Bewitchment Claims

Natalie “Enchantress” Mhandu, a socialite with a penchant for the mystical, is set to appear in court today to answer to allegations of witchcraft. Two women have filed a criminal complaint against her, claiming she’s been casting spells and causing them undue harm.

According to the complaint, filed under Section 98 of the Criminal Code, Enchantress allegedly bewitch her former friends, inspiring fear and belief in potential harm. The law states that anyone engaging in practices associated with witchcraft, with intent to cause harm, can face a fine or up to five years in prison.

Zimbabwe has a complex history with witchcraft, with many believing in its power. In some areas, like Chipinge and Gokwe, witchcraft is particularly prevalent. The government has struggled to address the issue, with some arguing that the Witchcraft Suppression Act of 1899 is outdated and needs revision.

The police are investigating the allegations, and further details will be released in due course. Enchantress’s reputation as a socialite with a flair for the dramatic has been put to the test. Will she prove her innocence or will the courts determine she’s been casting spells?
