On Tuesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) received intelligence indicating that gold was being smuggled out of the country concealed inside a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser. Acting promptly on this tip-off, detectives from the CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit tracked the vehicle and apprehended three individuals involved.
During the arrest, authorities seized 15.7 kilograms of gold, with an estimated value of around USD 1,568,860. The confiscated gold has since been securely transferred to Fidelity Gold Refinery located in Msasa.
Investigations are still underway as law enforcement works to uncover any additional accomplices and to strengthen measures aimed at preventing future smuggling attempts.
