Woman Found Murdered by Own Stepdaughter and Buried in the Garden

The quiet village of Magotsha in Tsholotsho has been shaken by the harrowing discovery of Jennifer Dube’s body, found buried in her own garden months after she went missing. Jennifer, a mother and wife, disappeared on May 2, prompting a lengthy and agonizing search by her family and community.

Her remains, discovered on September 2 following an anonymous tip, were found in a shallow grave, bound and wrapped in cloth, confirming the worst fears of those close to her. The revelation has sent shockwaves through the village, where whispers of tensions and disputes had surrounded Jennifer’s family for some time.

Authorities allege that the perpetrators are Jennifer’s stepdaughter, Linna Mzimela, and Linna’s boyfriend, known as Nkosi. Family members revealed that longstanding conflicts over inheritance and financial matters, particularly relating to the late Isaac Mzimela’s retirement benefits and rental income, had strained relationships within the household.

According to Jennifer’s aunt, Monica Nsingo, these disputes had been ongoing for years and escalated tragically in May. Despite early reports of Jennifer’s disappearance, the case remained unresolved for months, with villagers hesitant to speak out until the anonymous tip prompted police action.

Local traditional leader Headman Mazibisa emphasized the importance of timely reporting in missing persons cases and disclosed that the tip-off led to the grim discovery. Police have since arrested Linna Mzimela, who was found attempting to pass school uniforms to a relative, while her boyfriend remains at large.

The community gathered in mourning during Jennifer’s burial, attended by local political figures who acknowledged her contributions and expressed sorrow over the violent circumstances of her death.

While the arrest brings some relief to the family, the tragic loss and betrayal at the hands of kin cast a long shadow over Magotsha, highlighting deep wounds that will take time to heal.
