Tragic Passing of Chitungwiza Teen Locked Away for Years

Heartbreaking news has emerged from Chitungwiza, where 16-year-old Tinotenda Purumero, who endured being confined to a locked room for three long years, has sadly passed away.

Tinotenda died while receiving specialized medical care at Chitungwiza Hospital. Plans were in place to transfer him to a children’s home once his health improved, but fate had other plans.

The hospital’s public relations team confirmed the young boy’s death, marking a somber moment for the community.

Tinotenda’s ordeal began under the care of his father, Hebert Purumero, 45, and stepmother, Memory Kamuchato, who detained him in a locked room and cruelly withheld food, forcing the boy to survive on his own human waste.

Following their arrest, the couple faced charges under the Children’s Act and were sentenced by Magistrate Dennis Mangosi in Chitungwiza to two years behind bars.
