Saviour Kasukuwere Issues Stark Ultimatum to President Mnangagwa

In a bold and incendiary statement that has reverberated across Zimbabwe’s political landscape and social media platforms, former minister and influential opposition figure Saviour Kasukuwere declared that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure is effectively over, warning that if the president does not voluntarily step down, he will be “assisted” to do so.

Kasukuwere’s statement painted a stark contrast between the ruling elite’s lifestyle and the everyday struggles faced by ordinary Zimbabweans. He accused the administration of living “as if they are in Monaco” while the broader population suffers from poverty and economic hardship. This imagery struck a chord with many Zimbabweans frustrated by ongoing economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and shortages of basic goods.

Describing the government as a “‘car laden corrupt system,’” Kasukuwere asserted that the time for this leadership to continue has passed. His critique echoes long-standing grievances about corruption and state capture by politically connected elites, a narrative that has gained increasing traction amid recent controversies involving influential business figures linked to the ruling party.

Perhaps the most chilling aspect of Kasukuwere’s message was his claim to insider information regarding Mnangagwa’s intentions. He asserted, “We know he has volunteered that he wants to resign,” suggesting that the president is already contemplating stepping down but may be hesitating to make it public.

Kasukuwere then issued an unmistakable ultimatum: “If he does not, we will assist him.” This statement was widely interpreted as a veiled threat of political or even extra-political action to force Mnangagwa out of office, signaling an escalation in the struggle for power within Zimbabwe’s ruling elite and opposition movements.

Ending his statement with a powerful declaration ,“That’s the best decision and he has to GO! It’s OVER.” — Kasukuwere left no doubt about his position or intentions.

Saviour Kasukuwere, once a senior member of Zanu-PF and a minister, has been living in self-imposed exile amid accusations of corruption and political infighting. His vocal criticism of Mnangagwa’s administration places him among a growing cadre of former insiders who have turned against the current regime.

The timing of Kasukuwere’s statement comes amid heightened speculation about President Mnangagwa’s succession plans as Zimbabwe approaches its 2027 Zanu-PF congress. Reports of factional battles within the ruling party, especially tensions involving Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga and business moguls like Kudakwashe Tagwirei, have fueled uncertainty about the country’s political future.

Kasukuwere’s ultimatum adds new fuel to this fire, suggesting that pressure to remove Mnangagwa from power is not only coming from within official party structures but also from powerful dissenting voices outside the immediate government circle.

The reaction from Mnangagwa’s camp has been cautious but firm, emphasizing stability and continuity. Analysts warn that any abrupt attempts to unseat the president could destabilize Zimbabwe’s fragile political equilibrium and economy, which is already grappling with significant challenges.

Meanwhile, Zimbabweans remain watchful, with social media buzzing as supporters and detractors dissect Kasukuwere’s words and speculate on the possible outcomes. Whether this marks the beginning of a new chapter in Zimbabwe’s political saga or a strategic gambit in ongoing power struggles remains to be seen.

As the nation holds its breath, one thing is clear: Zimbabwe’s political drama is far from over.
