Prophet Walter Magaya, founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, and his wife Tendai have been remanded to December 9 for a trial date. The couple, who are facing charges of rape and fraud, appeared in court on Monday, with the State requesting a postponement due to ongoing investigations.
Magaya’s lawyer, Admire Rubaya, expressed frustration with the delay, stating that his clients were ready for trial. He also criticized the police for issuing press statements, saying “We are saying no to megaphone investigations. Cases are not won by police statements on social media” .
The Magayas are accused of defrauding 13 complainants of US$49,240 and R195,000 in a botched land deal. Magaya also faces five counts of rape, with allegations dating back to 2013 .
The court will set a firm trial date on December 9, provided the State has completed its investigations.
