Meanwhile in South Africa, a chilling discovery has left authorities baffled after the bodies of three Zimbabwean men were found floating in the Nkomazi River within a game reserve in Elukwatini.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli revealed that divers recovered the bodies on Friday, with no obvious signs of injury. The men had been reported missing by friends who said they had gone to the reserve but never came back.
Officials at the reserve informed the police that unauthorized people occasionally trespass on the property. Just a week earlier, suspicious individuals were spotted in the area but reportedly fled when authorities arrived.
Following a search prompted by the missing persons report, police located the bodies in the river. An inquest has been launched to establish the cause of death, and postmortem examinations are scheduled. The men’s identities will be made public once their families have been notified.
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, acting provincial commissioner for the SAPS, described the incident as “shocking” and urged a comprehensive investigation to uncover what led to these tragic deaths.
This case adds to a series of recent fatal incidents in South Africa, including the death of an American millionaire on a hunting expedition earlier this month.
