Madzibaba Veshanduko, a prominent opposition activist and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member, had his bail hearing postponed again, with the court remanding him in custody until December 4, 2025. This is the latest development in a case that has sparked widespread concern over human rights abuses and alleged government intimidation.
Veshanduko, whose real name is Godfrey Karembera, appeared in court at Rotten Row Magistrates Courts, where he is facing charges related to inciting public violence through the distribution of flyers. His lawyer has expressed concern over his client’s well-being, citing severe injuries sustained during his alleged abduction and torture by state security agents .
The activist’s family and human rights organizations have condemned the ongoing denial of medical care, calling it a “gross violation of human rights” and a blatant contempt of court. Veshanduko’s son was also recently injured while rescuing his siblings from their burning home, which was allegedly petrol bombed .
The postponement of the bail hearing has raised suspicions of government attempts to keep Veshanduko in custody and silence him. The case has garnered significant attention, with many calling for his immediate release and an end to the alleged persecution.
