A devastating landmine explosion in Binga’s Sebungwe Narrows area has claimed the lives of three people, including a 14-year-old girl. The incident occurred on Wednesday when six individuals ran over the landmine, believed to be a remnant from the 1970s independence war.
According to Information Secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana, the explosion killed the girl instantly, while two men succumbed to their injuries en route to Binga Rural District Hospital. The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) de-mining team is working tirelessly to clear the area and ensure no other landmines pose a threat.
Mangwana assured that efforts are being made to address the legacy of war-era landmines, which can remain active for decades and pose a significant danger to communities. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks associated with unexploded ordnance.
