Honest Cops Get Jail Time for ‘Creative’ Income Streams”

Two Harare police officers, Dennis Tafadzwa Chivaku and Sharon Madondo, have been sentenced to four years in prison (with one year suspended) for soliciting bribes at a checkpoint. Because, you know, taking cash from sand poachers is totally not what cops are supposed to do.

The Bribery Bonanza

The dynamic duo demanded $5 per truck to let vehicles pass and engage in sand poaching. Genius! Who needs a pension when you can just shake down truckers for cash? Authorities caught wind of their “side hustle” and set up a sting operation. Oops!

The Harare Magistrates’ Court convicted them of criminal abuse of duty, because corruption is soooo not okay. Now they’ll enjoy three years of taxpayer-funded accommodations. Silver linings, right?

Don’t get creative with your income streams if you’re a cop. Just stick to the day job. Unless, of course, your day job is taking bribes. In that case, get caught and enjoy prison life!
