Harare Man Sentenced to Two Years for Reckless Driving Against Traffic at Busy Intersection

In a stern warning to all reckless drivers, the Harare Magistrates Court has handed down a two-year effective jail sentence to Ruzvidzo Freedom, 32, from Hatcliffe, Harare. Freedom was caught flagrantly driving against oncoming traffic at the hectic intersection of Second Street (Sam Nujoma) and Upper East Road during rush hour.

Behind the wheel of a Toyota Hiace, Freedom blatantly ignored traffic regulations by entering a one-way lane, causing significant obstruction to other motorists. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the court condemned his dangerous behavior as a serious threat to public safety.

In addition to his imprisonment, Freedom’s driver’s licence has been canceled. He is now permanently banned from operating vehicle classes 2, 4, and 5 — which include minibuses, trucks, and heavy vehicles — ensuring he cannot endanger the roads again. This case serves as a clear message that reckless driving will not be tolerated in Harare.
