In a shocking case of betrayal, Darlington Furamwenje dragged his former best friend, Desmond Paunganwa, to Chief Mutasa’s community court, accusing him of stealing his seven-month-pregnant wife, Parnometer Nyatatu. Furamwenje claimed Paunganwa secretly dated his wife while they were still together, eventually setting her up in a new home with their children and belongings.
“I trusted Desmond like a brother,” Furamwenje said, visibly emotional. “He betrayed me by pursuing my wife and leaving me broken and humiliated.” Paunganwa, however, denied the allegations, stating he only started dating Nyatatu after she left her husband due to alleged threats on her life.
Nyatatu contradicted Paunganwa’s account, declaring her love for him despite carrying Furamwenje’s baby. “I was forced to leave my husband due to false accusations of infidelity,” she said. Paunganwa’s wife, Mai Ruva, also testified, revealing that her husband had confessed to no longer loving her and intended to divorce her to be with Nyatatu.
Chief Mutasa sternly reprimanded Paunganwa and Nyatatu, emphasizing the severity of their betrayal. “You have destroyed two marriages and hurt innocent children,” he said. The chief ordered DNA tests to determine the baby’s paternity and instructed both Furamwenje and Mai Ruva to undergo medical examinations.
Paunganwa was fined five beasts for his role in the affair, while Nyatatu received a fine of three beasts, which she must pay to Mai Ruva as compensation. In a humorous twist, the court also suggested Paunganwa take a refresher course on “How to Keep a Wife Happy” to prevent future marital mishaps
As for Paunganwa, he was seen contemplating a career change – from “marriage wrecker” to “marriage counselor”
