Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) chairperson Chido Chizondo has reportedly turned down a sponsorship deal with Prophet Walter Magaya for Maningi Queens, despite the prophet fulfilling her demands.
Maningi Queens had pulled out of the league due to financial challenges, but Magaya stepped in to offer support. Chizondo had requested Magaya to write a letter to the league requesting to sponsor the team and deposit money into Maningi’s account, which he did two weeks ago.
However, it’s been three weeks since Magaya fulfilled Chizondo’s demands, and Maningi Queens has yet to receive any response or support. The team’s players have been training in limbo, hoping for a resolution.
Magaya had also promised to allow Maningi Queens to use Yadah hotel for their home fixtures and has been providing free use of the Heart Stadium for Maningi and other ZWPSL teams since last season .
The lack of response from Chizondo has left Maningi Queens and its players uncertain about their future in the league. With six games remaining before the end of the season, the team’s fate hangs in the balance.
This development raises questions about the leadership and decision-making processes within the ZWPSL, which was established to promote and develop women’s football in Zimbabwe .
