ZUPCO Boosts Green Transport with 13 New Electric Buses

In a significant step towards modernizing Zimbabwe’s public transport and aligning with the government’s “Nqubela Phambili” vision, the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has acquired 13 cutting-edge electric buses. These environmentally friendly vehicles represent a bold move to reduce carbon emissions and protect the ozone layer, positioning Zimbabwe as a regional pioneer in adopting electric public transportation. The new fleet is expected to improve urban mobility while showcasing the country’s commitment to sustainable development.

This acquisition places ZUPCO in a competitive race among state-owned enterprises, following the National Railways of Zimbabwe’s (NRZ) recent launch of refurbished luxury trains. The move underscores a growing trend among parastatals to modernize infrastructure and improve service delivery. With these electric buses hitting the streets soon, Zimbabwe is making strides to join the ranks of countries embracing green technologies in public transport, signaling a cleaner, more sustainable future for its citizens.
