Zimbabwean Duo Busted with R180k Cigarette Haul

In a high-speed chase that would put Fast and Furious to shame, two Zimbabwean men were arrested by the South African Police in Tzaneen, Limpopo, after being found with illicit Remington Gold cigarettes worth R180,000 (approximately US$10,000).

The suspects, aged 37 and 48, were driving two white Toyota Corolla Quest cars, which were spotted heading towards the Tzaneen industrial area. Police had received a tip-off about the smugglers’ plans to transport the contraband from Musina to Tzaneen.

When police attempted to stop the vehicles, the drivers made a daring escape, speeding towards the Tzaneen Sasol garage. The police gave chase, and the suspects were eventually cornered near the Sasol industrial area.

Upon searching the cars, police found them packed with illicit Remington Gold cigarettes. The suspects were arrested on the spot and are expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on December 2, 2025, to face charges of possessing illicit cigarettes .

The Toyota Corolla Quest, a car known for its reliability, was apparently the vehicle of choice for these would-be smugglers. Interestingly, the Toyota Corolla Quest has been discontinued in South Africa, making these cars potentially collectible… or in this case, confiscatable .

Police investigations are ongoing.
