Fungai Maregedze, wife of Zanu PF DCC chairman and Zaka South MP Clemence Chiduwa, has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on charges related to criminal abuse of office. Maregedze, who serves as the chairperson of Zaka Rural District Council (RDC), was taken into custody on October 2, 2024, and spent a night in police cells before being released on bail.
The arrest is linked to allegations of misuse of council funds and resources, including the approval of unauthorized payments and meetings. Specifically, Maregedze is accused of convening unsanctioned meetings and authorizing payments for sitting allowances amounting to over US$6,000.
Maregedze’s arrest has sparked controversy, with some alleging that it is part of a larger power struggle within Zanu PF in Zaka. Her husband, Clemence Chiduwa, is a prominent figure in the party, and the incident has raised questions about factionalism and internal conflicts within the local authority.
Maregedze’s case is ongoing, with her next court appearance scheduled for November 19. The outcome of the case is likely to be closely watched, given the implications for local governance and the rule of law in Zimbabwe .
