Workers Protest Substandard Food at Dinson Iron and Steel

Dinson Iron and Steel Company’s workers in Manhize are speaking out about the alleged food safety crisis at the plant’s canteen, operated by Hotplate Grill. Employees claim they’ve been served spoiled, unhealthy meals, leading to widespread stomach illnesses.

The canteen’s food is said to be contaminated with maggots, foul smells, and rotten meat. Workers blame the situation on unpaid Hotplate Grill staff, who allegedly haven’t received wages in months, compromising hygiene standards.

Insiders allege the company is sourcing cheap, unhealthy meat from nearby communities, putting workers’ health at risk. Despite complaints, management and Chinese contractors are accused of ignoring the issue, prioritizing production over worker welfare.

Workers who dare to speak out face intimidation and threats of dismissal, creating a culture of fear. The situation is spiraling out of control, with employees fearing for their health and safety at one of Zimbabwe’s largest industrial projects.
