Veteran Journalist Arrested in Gutu

Matthew Takaona, a well-known journalist and opposition activist, was arrested by the Ferret team, a group comprising police and intelligence officers, while participating in a community road safety project in Gutu. Takaona, who runs the Masvingo Mirror newspaper, was volunteering with parents to cut grass along a hazardous section of road near Mushayavanhu Primary School.

The group was working to improve visibility and reduce accidents in the area. Despite their noble efforts, Ferret agents intervened and took Takaona into custody, transporting him to Gutu Police Station. The exact reason for his arrest remains unclear, sparking concerns about potential political motivations.

Sources close to the matter suggest that Takaona’s arrest may be linked to his outspoken criticism of the ruling Zanu-PF party. The circumstances surrounding his detention have raised eyebrows, with many questioning the authorities’ actions. As the situation unfolds, the fate of Takaona and the implications of his arrest remain uncertain.
