Police in Nkayi have taken two security guards into custody following a deadly incident at DGL5 Mine in Inyathi. Mbekhezele Ngwabi (52) and Elisha Matsvai (45) are facing charges of murder and attempted murder after a confrontation with illegal miners turned violent.
On November 30, 2025, Ngwabi allegedly shot and killed Thabo Ngwenya (24), while Matsvai injured Nkosikhona Moyo (19). The victims had approached the guards demanding the release of a friend who had been caught conducting illegal mining activities. Ngwabi reportedly shot Ngwenya in the chest and neck, while Matsvai shot Moyo in the eye and left arm. Ngwenya succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, while Moyo survived . end//..
