Transfer Tug-of-War Looms as Newcastle Chase Strand Larsen Amid Busy January Rumours

Sport News

Newcastle United could find themselves locked in a January transfer battle with Tottenham Hotspur as both clubs weigh up moves for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, according to reports.

The 25-year-old Norway international has attracted interest after a strong run of form, with Newcastle considering a renewed approach to Wolves. However, Spurs are also in the market for attacking reinforcements, particularly after it emerged that Mohammed Kudus’ injury is more serious than initially feared.

Elsewhere, developments at Manchester United have complicated Roma’s interest in forward Joshua Zirkzee. Roma director Ricky Massara has indicated that the dismissal of head coach Ruben Amorim has altered the dynamics of any potential deal involving the 24-year-old.

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa has also been the subject of intense speculation. Juventus are monitoring the Italian international’s situation, with reports suggesting their interest may depend on whether Mohamed Salah remains at Anfield. Napoli are likewise keen, but Liverpool are understood to be reluctant to sanction Chiesa’s departure during the January window and have not received any formal offers.

In Spain, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is said to have no intention of leaving the club this month, despite multiple enquiries for the 37-year-old Poland international.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have tabled an improved contract offer for defender Dayot Upamecano, whose current deal expires in the summer. The German giants are keen to resolve the situation swiftly, although the France international is reportedly in no rush to decide.

AC Milan are exploring a move for Bayern centre-back Kim Min-jae, but any deal would likely hinge on the Bundesliga side agreeing to subsidise part of the South Korean defender’s wages.

Young Brazilian striker Endrick, currently on loan at Lyon from Real Madrid, has revealed that head coach Carlo Ancelotti advised him to seek regular first-team football away from the Spanish giants.

In England, striker Michail Antonio’s proposed switch to Leicester City has collapsed after the Jamaica international suffered a muscle injury. The 35-year-old has not played competitively since a car crash in December 2024.

Tottenham are also preparing to loan out 19-year-old South Korea forward Yang Min-hyeok, who is set to join Championship leaders Coventry City for the remainder of the season.

EFL Transfer Watch

In the Championship, Middlesbrough are reportedly planning a bold move for Hull City defender Charlie Hughes, with the highly rated centre-back valued at around £10 million. Boro are also tracking Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento, should his loan spell at Cremonese be cut short.

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Arijanet Muric has attracted interest from Juventus following an impressive loan stint at Sassuolo, while several Championship sides are monitoring Chelsea midfielder Leo Castledine, who has impressed on loan at Huddersfield Town.

Portsmouth are said to be competing with Danish outfit Brondby for Senegal striker Ousmane Sow, while Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing a loan move for Manchester City midfielder Jaden Heskey, son of former England striker Emile Heskey.

With the January window heating up, clubs across Europe are positioning themselves for a potentially frantic few weeks in the transfer market.
