Machamacha’s scheme was simple: she took money meant for clients and used it for her own purposes, including trying to secure online loans. Because who doesn’t love a good online loan, right? An internal audit caught her in the act, revealing a shortfall that Machamacha couldn’t sweet-talk her way out of.
In a bold move, Machamacha managed to scrounge up US$1,400 and attempted to make a partial repayment. Because, you know, paying back some of the money is basically the same as paying back all of it. The court was impressed – not.
Machamacha was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, with nine months suspended on condition of good behavior and full restitution of the stolen money.
