Security has been heightened in Guruve after two more people were murdered, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend suspected serial killer Anymore Zvitsva.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed that additional officers, supported by members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, have been deployed in the area as investigations continue. Zvitsva remains the main suspect in a string of killings that have left 12 people dead in Guruve since October, including the murder of five members of the Zvitsva family at Ona Farm on 11 December.
The most recent victims have been identified as 40-year-old Alice Saujati Mayora and her 16-year-old daughter, Shalom Malunga, who were found murdered on Monday night.
State broadcaster ZBC News reported a visible increase in security patrols on Tuesday, with both police and soldiers carrying out operations in the affected communities.
Speaking to ZBC News, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said security forces are conducting intensive patrols, surveillance operations, and stop-and-search exercises in a bid to locate and arrest the suspect.
He added that residents of Korobe have been urged to take precautionary measures, including sleeping in groups, to reduce the risk of further attacks.
Commissioner Nyathi also confirmed that police are investigating a list allegedly naming 100 women and 50 girls believed to be potential targets. He said authorities are working to establish whether the list is genuine, amid claims that some individuals named may already be deceased.
Nyathi further warned that anyone assisting or shielding the suspect would face the full consequences of the law.
