Road Rage or Just Plain Rage?

In a shocking display of maturity, a 25-year-old Bulawayo man, Ashley Sibanda, decided to take matters into his own hands – literally – when he felt disrespected by his neighbor. Because, you know, running someone over with your car and then beating them while their foot is crushed under the tire is totally an appropriate response to a perceived insult.

The drama unfolded on February 10, 2025, when Sibanda spotted his neighbor, Believe Mbedzi, standing by the roadside. In a split-second decision, Sibanda turned his car into a weapon, mowing down Mbedzi. But that wasn’t enough; he and his accomplice, Thembelihle Sibanda (who’s still on the loose), jumped out and started slapping Mbedzi while his foot was still pinned under the tire. Classy.

The court was not amused, sentencing Ashley Sibanda to 24 months in jail, with part of it suspended if he behaves himself for the next five years. He also got slapped with 480 hours of community service and a US$380 compensation bill. Sibanda’s lawyer claimed provocation, but let’s be real, there’s no excuse for that level of violence.

Ashley Sibanda’s actions landed him in hot water, and he’s now facing the consequences. Here’s what he’s got to look forward to:

The aftermath of Sibanda’s violent outburst includes a 24-month jail sentence, with part of it suspended for five years if he behaves. On top of that, he’s been ordered to complete 480 hours of community service, a move aimed at giving back to the community he’s harmed. Sibanda’s also been told to pay US$380 in compensation to Believe Mbedzi, the victim who suffered a broken foot and facial injuries. Mbedzi’s road to recovery will likely be long, given the severity of his injuries, which include a broken foot and facial damage. The court took into account the “health problems and financial loss” caused by Sibanda’s “reckless and violent” actions when determining his sentence.
