Prophet Walter Magaya, the founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, is on the offensive after securing his release from remand prison. Magaya’s legal team has filed a new High Court review application challenging the magistrate’s decision that initially placed him on remand.
The application targets Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who dismissed Magaya’s challenge to his detention despite the State admitting he was held for over 48 hours, violating constitutional limits. Magaya argues the decision was a “gross violation of the Constitution” and should be overturned.
Magaya’s lawyers claim the magistrate’s ruling created a dangerous precedent, allowing state actors to violate fundamental rights with impunity. The case stems from Magaya’s arrest on November 1, facing 13 counts of fraud and five counts of rape, with his wife Tendai granted $500 bail and released.
The High Court will review Magistrate Gofa’s decision and the Prosecutor General’s role in the case. Magaya’s release comes amid allegations of a “calculated ploy” to destroy his reputation, with his legal team seeking accountability for the over-detention.
