The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have summoned social media figure Dr David Nhunzva to appear before the CID Law and Order section as part of investigations into allegedly fabricated digital content said to have harmed the image of the police.
In a statement released on 25 December 2025, police warned that the creation and circulation of deceptive online material, including content generated using artificial intelligence, is a criminal offence under the Cyber and Data Protection Act (Chapter 12:07).
According to the ZRP, the law prohibits publishing or sharing false information on digital platforms, particularly material that distorts reality, misleads the public, or damages the reputation of individuals or institutions.
Police allege that Dr Nhunzva produced and shared AI-generated videos aimed at discrediting the ZRP. The law enforcement agency said it would not tolerate the abuse of digital technology to spread misinformation, undermine public confidence, or tarnish institutional credibility.
The ZRP urged Dr Nhunzva to cooperate with investigators by reporting to CID Law and Order to assist with the ongoing probe.
