UK-based businesswoman and social media personality Olinda Chapel has been cleared in her cyberbullying case after the charges against her were dropped before she could enter a plea.
Chapel had been accused of targeting Dyonne Tafirenyika, the ex-wife of her partner Desmond Stunner Chideme, in a Facebook Live video, allegedly calling her derogatory names and issuing threats online. However, when she appeared before Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo, the prosecution announced it would no longer pursue the matter, effectively ending the case. Lawrence Gangarahwe represented the State.
Following the court decision, Olinda revealed that she is closing The Olinda Chapel Foundation, the charitable organization she had run for years. The foundation had supported many people in need, providing food to the homeless, assisting with school fees, offering nurse aide training, and helping families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Olinda also supported victims of domestic violence and children living with HIV/AIDS.
In a heartfelt social media post, Olinda explained that she has decided to step back from charitable work to focus on her family. She said she wants to concentrate on her children after years of helping others with her own resources. “With a heavy heart, I am closing The Olinda Chapel Foundation. My priority now is my family, especially my children. I kindly ask that people stop sending me requests for assistance,” she wrote.
The announcement sparked a mixed response online, with some praising her past efforts and others expressing disappointment. Olinda stressed that she is not seeking sympathy or applause, only the chance to focus on her personal life after years of public and charitable work.
