Police in Zimbabwe are appealing for information to locate and arrest a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian before speeding away.

According to police, 50-year-old Fundani Mlilo was crossing Robert Mugabe Way near Avonmore Road on Monday evening when he was hit by an unknown driver who fled the scene.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said Mlilo sustained head injuries and a fractured leg. He was taken by ambulance to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Inspector Ncube alleged the accident was caused by the driver’s “over-speeding and failure to keep a proper lookout.”

He urged the public to obey traffic regulations and be vigilant for pedestrians, especially at night. Police encouraged pedestrians to wear reflective clothing to be more visible to drivers.

Anyone with information on the driver’s identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the police.
