A 36-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and fraud. The man, Brighton Majukwa, allegedly struck a police officer on the head with a metal hoe when officers came to arrest him for fraud.

Majukwa is accused of defrauding a businessman named Ross Wallbridge. He reportedly posed as someone named Weston Mukundwa and promised to facilitate the purchase of 250,000 liters of diesel weekly for a fee.

Wallbridge paid the fee to bank accounts Majukwa told him to use but never received the fuel. Majukwa then claimed the person he posed as had died, making him unreachable.

Majukwa is accused of using a similar scheme to defraud a second victim out of $1,200.

When police came to arrest Majukwa for the fraud, he allegedly attacked one of the officers with a hoe, hitting him on the head. Majukwa fled but was later caught. Majukwa appeared in court and was denied bail. He faces attempted murder charges for the hoe attack in addition to fraud charges.
