MDC-T leader and presidential candidate in the August 23 election has withdrawn from the race in protest over what he says has been unfair treatment against his party.

Mwonzora, who had an outside chance to clinch the presidency according to pre-poll poll surveys and discernible support on the ground, accused the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and Zimbabwean courts of bias against his party.

The politician cited the disqualification of 87 party candidates during nomination stage and the subsequent upholding of the decision by the courts as a case of bias against his party.

The candidates were disqualified after failing to pay their nomination fees after failures associated with local electronic bank transfers.
