WATCH| Inside Former Springboks Rugby Star Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira’s Multi-Million Rand Mansion

Zimbabwe-born South African former rugby player Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira has etched his name in the history books as one of the greatest rugby players in the world.

In 2020, he was inducted into the World Rugby Team Of The Decade. In 2019, he was part of the Springboks squad that clinched the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

He was also inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.

Mtawarira’s skill and success on the pitch have brought him immense wealth, demonstrated clearly by the opulent mansion he built for his family.

The majestic three-story house sits on the slope of the mountainous North Coast of Durban.

Beast is married to Kuzivakwashe, and they have a son Wangu and a daughter Twalumba.

In an in-depth Top Billing video shared on YouTube, a tour of Mtawarira’s palace starts in a room dedicated to his career.

The room is full of his Springboks and Sharks jerseys, medals, and trophies he collected throughout his career.

The sitting room of the expansive house has a massive window, giving visitors a breathtaking glimpse of the sea.

The grey couches and a solid brown walnut table give the room a lush and contemporary feel.

At the front of the dining room is a long, clear pool that illuminates the reflection of the bright lights adorning the mansion.

The western side of the house has a fire pit with concrete benches fitted three steps from the ground level.

The benches have cushions and a bonfire in the middle to warm people as they breathe the fresh sea air in the humid area. It is Tendai’s favourite spot to hang out with the boys.

The spacious and intimate kitchen, with a fitted stove on a graphite table at the centre, has three yellow ring lights held by steel rings, draped some centimetres from the ceiling.

The open-airy home has black rafters to add interest to the roof design.
The kids’ playroom is complemented by educational elements, as the wall is plastered with a giant world map.

Apparently, the room has a puppet that Kuziva uses to teach her children about different countries of the world.

When Tendai travels outside South Africa, the children stick the puppet with Mtawarira’s face on the country he has visited.

The pool is a work of architectural mastery.

Architect Tracy Levinson said:

“We wanted the pool to be on the same level as the living spaces, which is upstairs. So we had to somehow make the pool float. We needed to get an engineer involved to help us make sure that this beautiful lap pool was set above the bedrooms below and emphasize the 180° sea view we have.”

The estate’s intimate lounge is spruced with artsy walls and a mustard L couch facing a huge flat-screen television set. The room is Tendai’s man cave.

The house also has a sonic bath with lovely organic pendants suspended below. The bathtub is fitted with speakers that blare out music during a private bubble bath.
