South African Celebrities With Zimbabwean Roots

South African celebrities such as Nadia Nakai, Oskido, Tendai Mtawarira and the late Jolidee Matongo’s Zimbabwean roots are well known. Here are some of the South African celebrities you probably did not know were originally from Zimbabwe.

The South African multitalented rapper Gigi Lamayne, real name Genesis Gabriella Tina Manney has Zimbabwean roots.

While she was born in South Africa, Gigi Lamayne is Zimbabwean by origin.  She has had success in music and in May this year, she released her debut album, Set in Stone. Gigi Lamayne also made headlines when she was announced as a paid partner for Rihanna’s Fenty Skin family.

Bujy Bikwa

Bujy Bikwa also known as Junior Bikwa is a South African radio host, television presenter and producer. Bujy Bikwa was born in Zimbabwe and moved to South Africa in 1992 with his South African mother.

He grew up at Orange Farm before moving to Johannesburg. Bujy Bikwa became a household name as one of the Top 4 contestants on the SABC1 reality competition Dance Your Butt Off, from 2010-2011.

Luthuli Dlamini

Veteran film and television actor Luthuli Dlamini was born in Zimbabwe. While he was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Dlamini moved to England. He spent his childhood between England and Zimbabwe.

Speaking on his early childhood experience, Luthuli Dlamini said:

I was born in Zimbabwe in the late ’60s and moved between Africa and Europe most of my life. I lived all the way through the Beatles craze of the UK and the liberation movement of Zimbabwe. England was fun but I felt like a foreigner and I always wanted to come back home.

Mr Brown

Music producer Mr Brown, real name Lynol Siwela, was born on 5 February 1990 in Gweru, Zimbabwe.

He co-produced South African hits Skeleton Move by Master KG to Waya Waya by Team Mosha and Nomcebo Zikode’s Xola Moya Wam. He is hitmaker Makhadzi’s frequent collaborator and producer. Together they have worked on hits such as Murahu, MaGearand I Believe.
