Information Secretary, Nick Mangwana has urged the public to respect the privacy of private citizens after pictures of Robert Tinotenda Mugabe Junior in the hospital went viral on social media.

Robert who is the son of the late former president, Robert Gabriel Mugabe was reportedly hospitalised at a private hospital in Singapore on Saturday after experiencing chest pains.

According to a report, Mugabe was alone when he suffered a collapsed right lung a few hours after he landed in Singapore. He was reportedly ferried to an unnamed Singapore private hospital where he was admitted.

The pictures attracted varying comments with exiled former Tourism minister, Walter Mzembi saying the young Mugabe had made an error by trusting his late “father’s persecutors cosy up to them with such reckless abandon & think you would be safe in such company.”

Speaking on the pictures being shared online, and comments made about it, Mangwana said:

I think we should respect individuals’ right to confidentiality when it comes to health issues, especially where one is a private citizen. The young man is not a public official…

And somehow you concluded that his illness has something to do with rallies he attended 2 months ago?

Robert Jr attended a ZANU PF rally in Chitungwiza in the run-up to the 26 March by-elections where he met President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his son, Emmerson Jr.

He was also pictured eating ice cream at the rally while seating alongside ZANU PF-linked preacher Passion Java.

The late Mugabe died in Singapore “a bitter man” according to his nephew Walter Chidhakwa after he was ousted in a military coup in November 2017
