MDC-Alliance activist, Makomborero Haruzivishe, has been granted a $10 000 bail by the High Court.

This is one of his cases, and he was charged for “staging an illegal demonstration” near the Morgan Tsvangirai House, formerly Harvest House, in Harare in 2020.

Haruzivishe, who was being represented by Professor Lovemore Madhuku and Mr Simon Chabuka, was freed on bail on appeal after his initial bail was revoked by a Harare magistrate after failing to avail himself in court on several occasions.

Haruzivishe is jointly appearing in court with Allan Moyo, Denford Ngadziore, Stanley Manyenga, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, who is alleged to be on the run.

Commenting on the development, MDC Alliance legislator for Harare West, Joanah Mamombe said the news was refreshing. She said:

This is so refreshing.. we can’t wait to welcome you home my brother @MakomboreroH. @ZLHRLawyers & @obeyshava1 we are grateful for all you have done for Mako. Thank you @ProfMadhuku for a successful bail application today at the high court. We are #HappyAgain.

Haruzivishe’s incaceration had drawn criticism from with the camps of human rights defenders, the opposition and the international community.

They described it as an assault on democracy and freedoms of expression and speech.
