On Tuesday, a sombre atmosphere engulfed Chiredzi residents following the death of two pre-school children after businesswoman and crèche owner Zhuwakina Jabangwe left them and two other kids locked inside her Honda CVR boot.

Celine Shiri (3) and Lynet Musungatu (4) died after they were reportedly left to bake in the sun in the boot of a Honda Fit for four hours.

Zhuwakina Jabangwe has since been arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, the father of one of the kids that died in the boot is demanding answers as he claims that he and his family are still in the dark on what transpired on that fateful day.

Celine Shiri’s father, Vitalis Shiri said he and his family are still trying to come to terms with the tragic death of his daughter.

“I’m in pain over the death of my daughter. I was told around 2 pm that my daughter had been involved in an accident then I went to the hospital and the police.

The police told me that an accident happened, they said my daughter suffocated to death but I asked them what time did this accident happen because my daughter is normally picked at 8 am and knocks off at 3 pm.

I don’t understand how my daughter ended up in the boot as children always sit in the passenger seat every time Jabangwe ferries them” he said.

He said efforts to get answers have been in vain. As a result, they are currently waiting for the post mortem.

“Then what exactly happened? I can’t get answers. Up to now, I don’t know how my daughter died maybe the post mortem will be able to reveal the truth,” said Shiri.

Meanwhile, Jabangwe has since appeared before Magistrate Misheck Brian Munyaradzi charged with murder, attempted murder and violation of the Education Act.

State Media reports that She was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to December 9, 2021.

The Magistrate advised Jabangwe to apply for bail at the High Court.
