MASVINGO – Mpandawana High School Science teacher, Taitos Madzingo has been re-appointed manager of the Zimbabwe Athletics Team and this time he is leading the team to Lesotho to participate in the 9th Edition of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) games.
This is the fifth time that Madzingo has brought the honours to Gutu. He was first appointed into the post in 2010 and the current appointment is with effect from September 30, 2021.
The latest appointment is contained in a communique dated November 15, 2021 signed by Team Zimbabwe Management Committee head of Mission Shephard Mukanhiri.
The Zimbabwe athletics team comprising 32 athletes in the U18 category and four administrators will be in Lesotho from December 3-12, 2021.
The Zimbabwean team will also include various other sport disciplines as soccer, Taekwondo, basketball, tennis, volleyball and handball among others.
“The Team Zimbabwe Management Committee, on behalf of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation and the Sports and Recreation Commission, is pleased to notify you of your appointment as Manager for the Zimbabwe Athletics Team with effect from 30 September 2021 to January 31, 2021.
“Your appointment is based on your sound knowledge of Athletics, experience and impeccable track record working with budding young athletes,” reads part of a communique seen by The Mirror.
“I am grateful for the trust that The Team Zimbabwe Management Committee has shown in me over the years. I first managed the national athletics team in the 2010 games held in Swaziland, 2014 in Zimbabwe, 2015 in Congo Brassaville, 2017 in Angola and this is my fifth time taking charge,” Madzingo.
Madzingo will be among other things charged with designing and coordinating technical preparations and a participation plan, facilitate accreditation for athletes, ensure necessary technical and logistical support for athletes and represent Team Athletics Zimbabwe in all pre and post Games Athletics technical meetings.
